1996-1997 Radiance Calibrated Lights

The Radiance Calibrated Nightime Lights dataset is a composite of gain controlled data collected during requested time periods:

March 18, 20-23 1996
January 5 - 14 1997
February 3 - 12 1997

The controlled gain allowed measurement of light intensity from large cities to rural areas. The resulting values range from 1.54X10^-9 to 3.17X10^-7 watter/cm^2/sr/um.

This data has been used to estimate population by Paul Sutton in his doctoral dissertation "Census from Heaven: Estimation of Human Population Parameters Using Nighttime Satellite Imagery."
